I spent three months volunteering as a nurse at the central de salud in salango; I also did a lot of diabetes, and HTN screening/education in the surrounding towns, along with education on HIV prevention, and family planning. I believe that education is key and giving people the autonomy and information to make discussions is very important. I believe that for a proper effective health needs assessment it is important to understand the population you are working with culturally and input into your practice what they feel their needs are. I will forever be indebted to the individuals I was helping who helped me equally in different ways. I love Ecuador, it will always have a special place in my heart.
